Excellent article! Thank you. Are you okay if I ask you something? So this is my story: My thryoid took the plunge many years ago. I have been in the lowest dose of Synthroid and also this keeps my TSH within normal standards. Then, two years ago, I had a enormous cysts in both ovaries and also both ovaries were removed. Wasn't much time pass after which the hotflashes took control! I have 20+ hotflashes per day, thing also many hotflashes by night, have not slept well on eighteen+ mths. Do you had any suggestion what to try?

Hi Scott,

I've been meaning to comment on here for a couple days. Finally! I couldn't believe how your video made me tear up! I must be an ol' softy... ;)

Yes, those skinny jeans just don't motivate like kids and grandkids do, eh?!

I'll share a personal story here. My motivation to get fit has been my grandkids. The day I couldn't get up off the floor without help was excruciatingly painful to me emotionally. Since I had always been fit and strong, having that happen was devastating.

I have to say that my fitness since then has been an on-again-off-again thing, so to stick to a simple goal of doing some form of exercise every day has helped me incredibly. And your Quickies make it so easy to do!

Thanks again for your insights, Scott and Angie. It has really helped me focus again. I gave myself a fitness challenge of 30 days of exercises. That's easy for me to achieve. I didn't set a weight loss goal, just exercise every day. Simple. Thanks for the help on this exercise and fitness journey of mine. So far, so good. :)

This post is absolutely right on the money. I have used this idea frequently in counseling women in my church (although I'm a lawyer by trade, I volunteered as the president of my church's women's group, which involved a lot of counseling and goal setting). I'm happy to report this process has gotten a couple of women through college, and others focusing on goals they never had before!

It's difficult to do unless you have other people around whom you can trust with the vision. So create a community around yourself of people who understand your vision! This helps, too, because you have to articulate it to other people. When you do articulate it, your vision becomes real to you and your supporters. They have your back and won't let you fail.

Scott this is a great post. I have successfully used this visioning prcessover the pastyear to drop a good deal of weight and you are right on ... hte more I am attached emotionally to my vison the greater my success at seeing through to fruition.

I use this saying:

"What am I willing to give up now for what I really want?"

This is something I heard (I wish I could give credit to the source ... sorry), but it speaks loudly to me about short term gratification versus long term goal attainment.

Hey Scott,
Great post. I also read somewhere... that rather than thinking "what harm can the little piece of [any temptation] do to my efforts" ask yourself, "is this piece of chocolate going to help me in my weightloss"
Thanks for keeping us motivated!!

Thumbs up!! Really nicely done. You say "you deserve it" in your blog and I think that is really key.. I am sure that many of us who are or have been unfit are using unhealthy food and sedentary habits to punish ourselves. So the idea of being deserving is very important. No matter who you are or what you have done or not done, you deserve RIGHT NOW to be good to yourself with nourishing food and fun, strengthening activity.

Hi Scott! What a GREAT post! And SOOOO true! Sometimes we just think "Oh...what's one little (insert unhealthy food here) going to?" Or "I'll start tomorrow". Visualizing is SO important to achieving our goals! Thanks so much for that reminder!

Judy

P.S. Your kids are adorable!
