Before I dive into this topic, I must make it clear that I am by no means an expert in dealing with menopause and I do not have any formal education on the subject matter. However, I do have 12 years of experience as a Certified Fitness Consultant, where 90% of my clients have been women who are either experiencing symptoms of premenopause or were currently going through menopause.

All of these amazing women had the exact same concern and fear about the “inevitable” weight gain that was about to unleash itself on them. These thoughts and concerns would dominate their conversations. It was amazing to hear their stories about how their lifestyle had changed since these thoughts had taken over their life. Many of them began to eat unhealthy foods that they rarely ever ate before. It’s as if, since they believed it was inevitable that they would gain weight, they gave in and decided that they may as well eat junk.

So the very first exercise that I had all of these clients do, was to find positive female role models who were able to achieve amazing body transformations in spite of going through menopause. Once they started searching through magazines, books, and becoming aware of some friends and colleagues who developed beautiful physiques in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s, they had an eye opening experience that unlocked the doors to their true potential. One of my current personal training clients is well into her 80’s and she has just 21% body fat, is strong, lean, and confident!

It was important to hear the stories and background of these female role models. It was important to understand that it wasn’t easy, that they weren’t genetically gifted, and that their life was not all about fitness. These were real women who achieved great things in spite of the challenges they faced.

It’s important to note that there must be a shift in your belief system, that it is indeed possible to transform your body and life even while going through menopause. But of course it is much more than that. I will use the example of an experience from one of your fellow Fat Loss Quickie blog subscribers. Here’s what she asked…

My simple question is: “Does menopause have a significant impact on extra weight for women?”

She went on to mention…

“I am struggling with an extra 10 pounds that I just keep fighting with. Even when I am working out and eating well I don’t seem to be losing any of the fat, it is really stubborn. Don’t get me wrong, I feel great but I still have these handles around the middle, doesn’t look good with jeans or bikini! I know that I could cut way back on calories to achieve weight loss but does menopause make it harder to lose that fat? I don’t believe in starving myself, and besides I’m no good at it, and I know you would not suggest that anyway. I DO BELIEVE in living a full life, so yes I drink socially (about 4 glasses of wine/week) and I do enjoy dessert once a week or so.

Your thoughts?”

I will begin by answering her simple question with a simple answer… Yes, going through menopause will make it more difficult to lose weight. BUT… menopause does not make it impossible to lose weight… even that last bit of stubborn belly fat.

It’s more difficult for me to lose belly fat and gain muscle now at the age of 35 compared to when I was 20. I can guarantee that it will be a bit more difficult for me in my 40’s as well. In fact, I’d say every day from her on out is going to be more difficult than the previous day. But does that stop me? Heck NO! That inspires me.

Although it will always be more difficult, I will continue to strive to look better each year. I know that although it was easier for me to burn fat and build muscle in my 20’s, I look way better now than I did back then. I now have knowledge and experience on my side. I can work much smarter than I ever could before.

Personally I love a challenge and I always root for the underdog. Why? Because the success story is always so much more inspiring. The rewards are always so much greater in the end. If you take a woman in her early 20’s and a woman in her late 50’s and have them both achieve amazing body transformations, the woman in her 50’s will walk away with greater rewards. The sense of pride, achievement, adversity, and confidence will be greater, simply because she overcame greater challenges.

I’ve witnessed this first hand with all my female clients. I believe that my job has been even more rewarding because I got to share in these incredibly rewarding transformations. I got to see the expressions on their face and feel the joy in their voice. I got to witness how their success in their body transformation translated into success in all the other areas of their life. It was hard work for each of these women, and they earned every bit of their results.

After reading through the question above, there were a few things that jumped out at me. First I found it kind of funny, because there has always been a common theme with the women that I’ve trained. They all said,”I don’t want to give up my wine”

The next thing that jumped out at me was when I read, “I don’t believe in starving myself, and besides I’m no good at it.” This really caught my attention because there is such a huge gap between slightly reducing your calories and STARVING yourself. This is yet another limiting belief that I made note of throughout our email conversation. Believing that you have to starve yourself in order to release the last 10 pounds of stubborn belly fat will set you up for failure right out of the starting blocks.

Plus I feel that if you believe it’s necessary to starve yourself in order to lose the last 10 pounds of stubborn belly fat, you’ve just given yourself an “OUT”. If you aren’t losing weight you can blame it on not wanting to starve yourself in order to achieve your goal.

But really, there’s no need to go to extremes with your nutrition in order to experience great results. But it will require hard work.

You don’t have to completely give up your wine (I enjoy 2 light beers after hockey once per week), but you could cut back a little bit. Instead of 4 glasses of wine per week, try having just 3. You don’t have to give up your favorite foods… but you could cut back on them a bit.

It’s all about the feedback loop. Taking note of what you ate and drank this week, along with how much exercise you took part in, and then comparing it to how much your body has changed. If you didn’t lose any weight this week, simply reduce the amount of food that you consume the following week, while maintaining the same exercise regime. If you released half a pound, you now have something to go on. I discussed the importance of planning and tracking in a previous post. It’s definitely worth your time to read it or re-read it if you already have.

Consistent, focused effort with your workouts, going for a brisk walk, slightly reducing your food intake while becoming aware of how your body responds to these changes in your nutrition and exercise until you reach your target, is the key to success.

You Are at a Crossroad

It’s just 10 pounds. You have to decide… am I willing to bust my butt for a short time in order to achieve the physique that I desire? Am I willing to track your journey in a success journal and make the necessary changes when the result is not what you desired? Or would you rather continue doing what you’re doing and settling for where you are at?

I say, work hard for 8 weeks, get to the body that you desire, then you can follow a master plan to maintain your body and lifestyle.

This is your moment to shine. This is your moment to prove to other women, who are going through a similar experience as you, that it is indeed possible to lose stubborn belly fat in spite of your age or challenges. This is your moment to become a positive role model and inspire other women to become the best that they can be, all while enjoying a “Full life” as you so eloquently described.

Are you ready to embrace this challenge?

I do have a couple resources to share, which may prove to be helpful. The first is a paid resource that covers the connection between your “hormones” and bodyfat, along with a natural solution.

Not only bodyfat… Your sexual-drive, your energy, your mood, and of course issues like menopause, andropause (male menopause) and more. Give it a look…

==> NaturaPause

This next resource is free and comes from my friend Richard Schuller It’s geared toward men and women over the age of 50 who would like to begin a workout regime that will take years off your body. Richard is 70 years young and doesn’t look a day over 50.

==> 7 Day Quick Start Guide To Begin Taking a Decade Off Your Body

His recent body transformation has had a great positive impact on his entire life.

After receiving countless requests about how he lost weight, from his friends and colleagues, Tom decided to write it all out in a free report called, My Transformation Secrets, by Tom Beal

I highly recommend that you click on that link and grab Tom’s free report. Tom’s Transformation Secrets report reveals the exact workouts that he followed, including his weight training and cardio sessions, what he ate, and the mindset that he adopted to ensure that he arrived at his destination.

Tom shares some real gems when it comes to mindset and motivation, that I am certain will have a great impact on you. It’s his mental approach that had me read this short report multiple times.

There’s No Better Time Than Right Now?

If now is not the right time to get started on your very own body transformation… then when? What are you waiting for? Are you waiting to get a few projects out of the way? Are you waiting until you make more money? Are you waiting until your kids are old enough to take care of themselves? Are you waiting until tomorrow?

If not now… When?

The reason that I ask this is because for the past four years I’ve been trying to persuade Tom to make his health and fitness a top priority in his life as it once was, but the timing just never seemed to be right. There were a few times where he began jogging and playing around with the weights, but it never stuck… until now.

Now that I see him living life to the absolute fullest and I see the impact that his body transformation has had on his life, I can’t help but think of how he was robbing himself of this lifestyle for the past four years.

I’m not one to dwell on the negative and I don’t live with regret, but it’s times like these when I like to reflect… for a moment… on just what would have been possible.

It’s Simple

In My Body Transformation, Tom lays out the blueprint that he followed to transform his body and life. You’re not going to find any hype or gimmicks. What you will find is that with the right mindset and the right actions, it’s actually pretty simple to transform your body, but as Tom says, “It is simple to do. The rub is that it’s even simpler NOT to do. And the choice is in your hands.”

Tom Is No Ordinary Guy

It’s true, Tom is not your ordinary every day person. He refuses to allow obstacles to hold him back and he thrives off of challenging himself to continually improve himself.

He’s one of the most successful entrepreneurs that I know. He’s also been successful in many other areas of life, including becoming a National Bicycle Champion (X-games style baby!), the #1 Honor Graduate from USMC Boot Camp in Parris Island, South Carolina, 3 Meritorious Promotions in 4 years while in the USMC, wrestled in Quantico at the All-Marine Wrestling facility, #1 in 5 separate sales organizations, and has assisted in producing over $20 million in sales since 2006 as VP of Marketing for Mike Filsaime.

Those are some serious achievements!

In his quest for continuous growth, Tom has been coached by some of the greats, including Tony Robbins on his private island in Fiji. He never stops learning and he’s always putting what he learns into practice.

Think You’ve Got Obstacles Holding You Back?

To say that Tom has faced a few curve balls over the years would be a gross understatement. One biggie would be a devastating car accident, where Tom had a “REAL Death” experience, resulting in severe head injuries. The doctors told him that he would never walk or talk again.

…Look at him NOW! That’s one indication of the kind of drive and perseverance that Tom has.

If you look at the first half of Tom’s life, you would surely feel that he was dealt some bad cards. He was born to teenagers, growing up on and off welfare, going to 9 different schools by the 8th grade, and living through 4 divorces and 6 marriages as a child. In his adult life he even spent a short period of time homeless.

But as Tom says, “It doesn’t matter where you came from, or even where you are now, there are steps you can start taking TODAY to begin moving towards and accomplishing your dreams.”

I say that Tom is no ordinary guy, but really… he is! He’s just an ordinary guy who’s been able to achieve extraordinary things and he’s done so despite the obstacles that he’s faced.

And just like the rest of us ordinary folks, Tom can gain weight pretty darn easy when making unhealthy choices. And just like Tom… with some hard work and the right mindset, absolutely nothing can get in the way of you achieving the body and life that you deserve!

I continue to learn from Tom in my continuous journey of becoming the best me that I can be… and I encourage you to learn from him as well.

Get started now by reading his free report My Body Transformation

As I mentioned. There is no hype, no fluff, and no filler in this report. These are the real actions and mindset that Tom used to transform his body. It was a really refreshing read for me, as he just told it like it is and didn’t sugar coat it with anything.

It’s a quick read too, but I recommend reading it more than once, as I did. When you’re done reading it, be sure to let me know what you think and what actions you are implementing immediately.

Closing Notes

It’s amazing how 28 pounds can completely transform your LIFE! I see what it’s done for Tom and I know first hand after gaining 35 pounds myself, just how much that excess weight zapped my energy, self-confidence, and put me into a depression. I was a completely different person when I was 35 pounds over-weight. Angie and our children, lost their “Happy-Go-Luck” husband and father during that ‘dark period’.

How is your excess weight impacting your life? How amazing will your life be when you achieve your personal body transformation?

…Food for thought!

To achieving your limitless potential,

Scott Tousignant

PS Tom mentions that he drank some protein drinks within the report. I also drink a protein shake everyday, but I stick with Prograde Nutrition Protein Powder.

Why do you want to lose weight? Is it to weigh ‘x’ number of pounds? Is it to achieve a certain level of body fat? Is it to look sexy in a dress? Is it to look great on the beach? Is it to have more energy to play with your children or grandchildren? These answers are OK, but the ultimate reason why you want to lose weight is happiness!

How is it that you lose sight of something so simple? You become more concerned with what you see on the scale, how many calories you’ve consumed in a meal, and how many calories that you’ve burned on the treadmill, and less concerned with the one thing that truly matters… your happiness.

The true reason why want to lose weight is happiness. Having limitless energy to play with your children makes you happy. Seeing your sexy body in the mirror makes you happy. Feeling confident showing of your body on the beach makes you happy.

It’s those rewarding feelings that come with achieving your weight loss goal that you are truly aiming for.

But if happiness is your ultimate goal why do you dread the process? Why do I hear you say, “I hate working out”, “I hate jogging”, “I hate dieting”…

Do you even realize that you are associating the process of creating the body that you desire with such a dreadful word ‘hate’? You are associating your weight loss journey with pain rather than pleasure.

No wonder you never stick to your weight loss program. I wouldn’t either if I hated every second of it.

When you achieve your weight loss goal and experience the all the wonderful emotions that come with it you will be happy. But happiness is not defined by a single moment in time. Happiness is the journey.

In addition to my degree in Kinesiology I also took many courses in psychology and philosophy. One of the philosophy courses that I studied in University was on this very topic of happiness and how we can never truly define happiness until the end of our existence.

The point that I want to drive home to you today is that you don’t have to wait until you reach your weight loss goal in order to be happy. You can be happy in this very moment by enjoying the journey and the process of achieving your goal.

I love quick and intense 10 minute workouts using dumbbells and body weight exercises. I love doing HIIT session where I alternate sprinting and walking for 10 minutes. I also love going for 30 minute bike rides along the country side during the spring, summer, and fall months. I love going for early morning brisk walks during the winter months. I even enjoy the moments where I go a little off course because they provide me with the opportunity to learn more about myself and discover why I respond the way I do under times of stress or boredom.

Did you notice how often I use the word ‘love’? I mean that with all sincerity. I truly love these things. When you are performing the activities that you really enjoy you are more likely to stick to the journey for the long term. The key ingredient to a successful fat loss journey is compliance and consistency. Doing the things that you love will certainly make it much easier to comply with your program on a consistent basis.

Many of my colleagues and friends experience great results using kettlebells, doing Pilates, as well as Yoga. I have tried these fitness methods and found that I did not achieve good results at all. The reason… I didn’t enjoy these forms of training at all. I wasn’t enjoying the journey and therefore my compliance and consistency took a major hit. Yet my friends experienced the same feelings of joy and love for those forms of fitness and that is a major reason why they experienced great results.

Do what you love. Don’t let anyone tell you that a certain form of exercise is better than another. The best exercise program is one that you will enjoy, put the most effort into, and stick with on a consistent basis.

I call my program the Fat Loss Quickie Experience because it’s more than just a workout program. It truly is an experience and one that I enjoy. I hope that you will enjoy it as well. The workouts are fast and fun. That’s the way that I like them. If you love spending hours in the gym chances are you will not enjoy the Fat Loss Quickie Experience and I recommend that you stick to longer programs that you enjoy.

There is more to the Fat Loss Quickie Experience than just the workouts. Exercise is just a part of the fat loss journey. I want you to transform your mind as well as your body. I want you to get in-tune with your body and as well as your thoughts. I want to share in this process with you and guide you step by step along the way. I want to share and celebrate each and every small victory that you experience. I want to watch you grow as a person, living to your full potential, and experiencing life the way it was meant to be lived… in happiness.

The focus of the Fat Loss Quickie Experience is happiness. I will constantly be reminding you that happiness is your ultimate goal. I don’t want you to lose sight of this. If you are feeling unhappy with any aspect of your fat loss journey lets talk about how we can get the happiness back.

I’m here for you and 100% committed to your success. I appreciate the feedback that you send my way. I appreciate your thoughts and opinions. I appreciate you. I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. It means the world to me.

Have an absolutely amazing day!

Remember… your ultimate goal is always HAPPINESS!

The Fit Chic’s Advice…

Do NOT feel guilty… just move on with your day and understand that food cravings can signify a need for certain nutrients that you are lacking. Just don’t go overboard and indulge in chocolate all day!

Choose DARK CHOCOLATE that is high in cocoa, at least 85%, as it has many health benefits such as…

A high content of flavonoids and antioxidants which neutralize free radicals in your body. Free radicals are nasty and can damage cells, clog arteries, and contribute to chronic illness and aging. They are found in leafy veggies, fruits, wine, and chocolate.

I hope that you enjoyed this short guest video post from Angie. She’s a living example that it’s still possible to achieve 6 pack abs after giving birth to 2 children and one of them being a c-section.

Angie certainly doesn’t deprive herself of junk food. She treats herself very often, but has learned to control the amount that she consumes. She also doesn’t spend hours in the gym. 10 minute workouts and 10 minute cardio sessions has been enough to help her get the lean and sexy physique that she deserves.

Are you ready to create the lean physique that you deserve?

Lucky for you, the Fat Loss Quickie mindset that you are developing will help you blast through any obstacle or barrier that you are faced with during this festive time of year.

If you have been thinking of starting a weight loss routine and are beginning to debate whether or not to put it off until the New Year, it’s time to take action. There’s no better time than now.

If you have been following an exercise and diet program for a little while and you are getting a little nervous about how you will handle the holiday temptations, it’s time to begin thinking of how great it’s going to feel as you continue to make progress during these challenging times.

I have a great audio for you today that will help skyrocket your fat loss motivation. This interview was conducted by my friend Scott Colby and in the process raised thousands of dollars for Trekking For Kids. I love being a part of these fund raising events and dishing out some outstanding content in the process.

The questions that we answered on mindset and motivation for weight loss were absolutely awesome. Scott and I were joined by our friends and motivation experts Jim Katsoulis and Kevin Gianni on the call as well. This made for one heck of a motivating audio that you will not want to miss.

Download this audio and pop it into your mp3 player and head out for an energizing walk. When you get back let me know what you have learned from the audio and what you are going to take action on today.

Let’s get through the holiday season in better shape than where we are at today. When other people are just setting their New Years Resolutions, you’ll already be well on your way to achieving them and may have already achieved those goals.

Wrap 2008 up in style!!!

<itunes:summary>The holiday season is right around the corner, which means that you will be surrounded with tempting foods, alcoholic beverages, and be presented with many opportunities to bail out on your workouts.

If that’s the case you will be happy to know that your diet solution has just arrived. It’s safe for me to bet that you are over complicating your fat loss nutrition plan. And it’s safe to say that worrying about what you should be eating can stress you out. It doesn’t have to be that way.

In this video, my friend Isabel De Los Rios shares the fundamental principles of diet and fat loss. Before you ever go looking for some advanced fat loss technique it’s crucially important that you master these nutrition principles.

Fat Loss Diet Fundamentals

Download Your FREE meal plan by visiting The Diet Solution Program Six Week Fat Loss Jump Start

The free six week meal plan that Isabel has so kindly allowed me to share with my readers, is a great way to give you diet the jump start that it needs. I’ll be following up with you to see how your body is responding to the Fat Loss Jump Start meal plan and I will be eager to know how easy it is for you to follow.

I do highly recommend Isabel’s book The Diet Solution Program which is complete with recipes and easy to follow meal plans. But her book goes way beyond that by helping you recognize what your metabolic type is and what sources of food would suit your specific requirements.

The Diet Solution Program is definitely not a quick fix. There’s no crazy and extreme tactics to be found in Isabel’s nutrition program. This is not a program where you will feel deprived and want to quit after a few short days.

The Diet Solution Program is incredibly informative. I learned new things about organic food, dairy, sweeteners, soy, wheat, and alcohol. After reading this book I was relieved with its practical approach and the uncomplicated manner that each topic was discussed.

Isabel’s years of experience as a Registered Dietitian certainly shine through in The Diet Solution Program. You can tell that she wrote this book with your best interests at heart.

Isabel “aka moon” certainly has a clear vision of the life that she desires to live and that powerful vision helped her win the first 21 Day Unstoppable Fat Loss Transformation Contest. It’s fantastic to see her continuing to build upon the momentum gained from the experience. Recently she created a fantastic video of the life that she is creating. Absolutely nothing will come between Isabel and her goals… She has become UNSTOPPABLE! Check out her video here…

You will notice a trend as you continue to read the Fat Loss Quickie blog. This journey that we are on is so much bigger than just weight loss. It’s about growth. It’s continuing to improve one way or another each and every day.

The Fat Loss Quickie Experience is not just about the numbers displayed on the scale. It’s about life and living it to the fullest. It’s about the positive impact that you have on each individual that you come in contact with. It’s about walking around with confidence knowing that you are living your life with purpose and passion.

One thing that I am certain of, is that your purpose will become a whole lot easier to fulfill when you make your health your #1 priority. Your passion will shine brighter and come across clearer when you are full of vibrant energy as a result of making your health your #1 priority.

But don’t just take my word for it. Listen to how Isabel’s life has changed and what she had to say after completing the first Unstoppable Fat Loss 21 Day Transformation Contest and making health her #1 priority…

21 days and beyond…

Who knew that 21 days could result in such a vast array of changes in my personality and outlook?
When I first joined the program I thought it would give me a motivational boost to encourage me to stay on track with my clean eating and exercise. I needed something to keep me away from ice cream and chips for the rest of the summer… boy was I surprised at all that I got in return.

As a result of the Unstoppable Fat Loss program I have switched the outlook on my whole future. In order to better understand how this has changed me, it’s important to understand where I was….

I was resentful and unhappy in so many areas of my life because I didn’t want to be working long hours and feeling unfulfilled in the management position that I have. I felt unappreciated and unloved. I felt that my needs were not being met and that I was being taken for granted. I felt like no one cared about me and I was craving more fun in my life.

I was constantly avoiding confrontation and any other situation that would cause me grief. I would over eat healthy foods or indulge in junk food once in a while to satisfy the urge for a reward because I was working my ass off and nothing seemed to give. I felt like my relationship with my boys and my husband was slipping through my fingers because I’d get home so tired, drained and fed up with dealing with people that I really didn’t want to hear another complaint or whiny story.

I wanted to come home, workout and stare at the walls some days because I was tired of dealing with people. Things never seemed to go my way and I was just so tired of it all.

Guilt, sadness and many other emotions were making me seek out food or cigarettes… no wonder I couldn’t break through in my weight loss when I was dealing with so many limiting or negative beliefs. I felt like I couldn’t lose any more weight since I’d already lost so much and I might as well be happy where I was. I still wasn’t comfortable with my body and felt that I’d never be happy with my body.

During the Unstoppable Fat Loss program I worked on a variety of issues that were causing me to over eat. I analyzed my life and my situation and by focusing on my mindset it is like a filter has been lifted off my eyes. I am no longer bitter and angry. I feel love pouring out of me instead of resentment. I have set up areas of encouraging images and quotes in my home, my car and my office to keep me inspired and motivated.

My active participation on the forum was a big benefit to me. Sharing and reading the posts from others gave me ideas on how to improve my own situation or things to take action on.

This program has given me a wonderful toolkit that I can use to apply to many situations in my life.
I have raised my standards as a result of the interviews and I have shifted the emotional attachment I had to ice cream. I see it for what it really is. I have not had to really resist anything with the need of willpower. I only want the best for my body and it has been easy these past few weeks. No Doritos as a result of stress or ice cream due to sadness. I haven’t really been too sad or upset either… hooray for that!

I decided that I could and would become a non-smoker. I reviewed all the benefits and reasons for becoming a non-smoker in a similar fashion as we did for all the benefits and reasons for improving our health and releasing fat. I applied the strategies and skills that I’ve learned and I am so confident that this was the last time I would smoke again. I am now a non-smoker.

My family life has improved. I smile and engage in conversation with my family more. I feel love and happiness fill my heart when I’m driving home rather than feeling dread. When I wake up in the morning I am excited and ready to start the day. My morning routine keeps me inspired and I look forward to another awesome day. When I go to bed I have a routine that helps center me and calm me down. All this is thanks to what I have learned and applied during the program. None of this would have been possible this quickly if it wasn’t for Unstoppable Fat Loss!!

At work I am happier and not resentful. I understand that I will not be in this line of work forever and with my goals and vision I will work from home or closer to home and help others transform their lives such as I did. I see my time there as a positive experience where I gain the financial resources and experience to help me move along in the future. I have intended my new career and I am grateful for what I have and I am ready to receive the wonderful bounty that awaits me.

I feel at peace. I am looking at everything with an attitude of gratitude and prosperity rather than being miserable and upset. I love the world and myself. I smile so much and I chose to engage in more fun activities. Can you believe that my weekends are becoming fuller and fuller with social activities out of the blue? Before I wanted to shut myself off from the world and wanted everyone to give me space.

I still have a lot to learn and a lot to implement along the way. I am on an un-ending journey of growth and development. I thought this was the end of my journey but now I understand that this was truly the beginning of another phase and I am forever grateful that I decided to buy this program because of all the blessings it has brought me along the way. I am so driven to help others transform their lives and embrace a healthy lifestyle and I am so thankful that I have learned so much via this program. The support from our community and the encouragement has really touched my life.

I know this was a challenge and I’m writing this as my submission for the contest but I feel that I am already a winner on so many levels and I’m truly grateful that this program and both Scott and Angie have come into my life.

You guys rock, this program rocks and I love you!!!
Oh yeah…it’s called unstoppable fat loss…I lost 3.5lbs and 1.5% body fat.
